First ReadingActs 13:14, 43-52

From the Acts of the Apostles

14But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. verses 15–42 are not read43Now when the synagogue broke up,many of the Jewsand of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas;who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

44The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the thingswhich were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

46Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessarythat God’s word should be spoken to you first.Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.47For so has the Lord commanded us, saying,

‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”

48As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God.As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.49The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.50But the Jews stirred up the devoutand prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.51But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.52The disciples were filled with joyand with the Holy Spirit.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 100:1-2, 3, 5*

1Shout for joy to the Lord, all you lands!2Serve the Lord with gladness.Come before his presence with singing.

3Know that the Lord, he is God.It is he who has made us, and we are his.We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

5For the Lord is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.

Second ReadingRevelation 7:9, 14b-17

From the Book of Revelation

9After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could count, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

verses 10–13 are not read14I told him, “My lord, you know.”

He said to me, “These are thosewho came out of the great suffering. They washed their robesand made them white in the Lamb’s blood.15Therefore they are before the throne of God,and they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them.16They will never be hungry or thirsty any more. The sun won’t beat on them, nor any heat;17for the Lambwho is in the middle of the throne shepherds themand leads them to springs of life-giving waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

GospelJohn 10:27-30

From the Gospel according to John

27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.28I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.29My Father who has given them to me is greater than all.No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.30I and the Father are one.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet 2:11-19

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet 2:11-19

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul, Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works, which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation. Be ye subject therefore to every human creature for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling; Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of the good: For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 16:16-22

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 16:16-22

In that time: Jesus said to his disciples: A little while, and now you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father. Then some of the disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, because I go to the Father? They said therefore: What is this that he saith, A little while? we know not what he speaketh. And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him; and he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me? Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. So also you now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you.

Easter

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially in this season when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Jacóbi Apóstoli.

Jas 5:16-20

Lesson from the letter of St James the Apostle

Jas 5:16-20

Dearly beloved: Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much. Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that it might not rain upon the earth, and it rained not for three years and six months. And he prayed again: and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. My brethren, if any of you err from the truth, and one convert him: He must know that he who causeth a sinner to be converted from the error of his way, shall save his soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 11:5-13

In that time: Jesus said to His disciples: Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and shall say to him: Friend, lend me three loaves, Because a friend of mine is come off his journey to me, and I have not what to set before him. And he from within should answer, and say: Trouble me not, the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. Yet if he shall continue knocking, I say to you, although he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend; yet, because of his importunity, he will rise, and give him as many as he needeth. And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. And which of you, if he ask his father bread, will he give him a stone? or a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he reach him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the good Spirit to them that ask him?
