First ReadingZechariah 2:5-9, 14-15a

From the Book of Zechariah

5I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold,a man with a measuring line in his hand.6Then I asked, “Where are you going?”

He said to me, “To measure Jerusalem,to see what is its width and what is its length.”

7Behold, the angel who talked with me went out,and another angel went out to meet him,8and said to him, “Run,speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.9For I,’ says the Lord,‘will be to her a wall of fire around it,and I will be the glory in the middle of her. verses 10–13 are not read14Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! For behold, I comeand I will dwell within you,’ says the Lord.15Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day,and shall be my people;and I will dwell among you,and you shall knowthat the Lord of Armies has sent me to you.

Responsorial PsalmJeremiah 31:10, 11-12ab, 13

From the Book of Jeremiah

10“Hear the Lord’s word, you nations, and declare it in the distant islands. Say,‘He who scattered Israel will gather him,and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’

11For the Lord has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.12They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of the Lord,to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil,and to the young of the flock and of the herd.Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.

13Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, the young men and the old together;for I will turn their mourning into joy,and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

GospelLuke 9:43b-45

From the Gospel according to Luke

43They were all astonished at the majesty of God.

But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did,he said to his disciples,44“Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.”45But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it,and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
