First ReadingHebrews 2:5-12

From the Letter to the Hebrews

5For he didn’t subject the world to come,of which we speak, to angels.6But one has somewhere testified, saying,

“What is man, that you think of him?Or the son of man, that you care for him?7You made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor.8You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”

For in that he subjected all things to him,he left nothing that is not subject to him.But now we don’t yet see all things subjected to him.9But we see himwho has been made a little lower than the angels,Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.

10For it became him,for whom are all things and through whom are all things,in bringing many children to glory,to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.11For both he who sanctifies and thosewho are sanctified are all from one,for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brothers,12saying,

“I will declare your name to my brothers.Among the congregation I will sing your praise.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 8:2ab and 5, 6-7, 8-9

2Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!5what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

6For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.7You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

8All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,9the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea,and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

GospelMark 1:21-28

From the Gospel according to Mark

21They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.22They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.23Immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,24saying, “Ha!What do we have to do with you, Jesus, you Nazarene?Have you come to destroy us?I know who you are:the Holy One of God!”

25Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”

26The unclean spirit, convulsing himand crying with a loud voice, came out of him.27They were all amazed,so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What can this new doctrine be?For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”28The report of him went out immediately into all the region of Galileeand its surrounding area.

Lesson from the book of Isaias

Isa 60:1-6

Rise up in splendor, O Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lord shines, and over you appears His glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Madian and Epha; all from Saba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joann 1:29-34

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 1:29-34

At that time, John saw Jesus coming to him, and he said, Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of Whom I said, ‘After me there comes One Who has been set above me, because He was before me.’ And I did not know Him. But that He may be known to Israel, for this reason have I come baptizing with water. And John bore witness, saying, I beheld the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon Him. And I did not know Him. But He Who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He upon Whom you will see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon Him, He it is Who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should in all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty and everlasting God. For when Thine only begotten Son showed Himself in the substance of our mortal nature, He restored us by the new light of His own immortality. And therefore with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the heavenly hosts, we sing a hymn to Thy glory, saying without ceasing:
