First ReadingIsaiah 41:13-20

From the Book of Isaiah

13For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Don’t be afraid.I will help you.’14Don’t be afraid, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel.I will help you,” says the Lord.“Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.15Behold, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff.16You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the whirlwind will scatter them. You will rejoice in the Lord. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.17The poor and needy seek water, and there is none.Their tongue fails for thirst.I, the Lord, will answer them.I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.18I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the middle of the valleys.I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.19I will put cedar, acacia, myrtle, and oil trees in the wilderness.I will set cypress trees, pine, and box trees together in the desert;20that they may see, know, consider, and understand together, that the Lord’s hand has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 145:1 and 9, 10-11, 12-13ab

1I will exalt you, my God, the King.I will praise your name forever and ever.9The Lord is good to all.His tender mercies are over all his works.

10All your works will give thanks to you, Lord.Your saints will extol you.11They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power,

12to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

GospelMatthew 11:11-15

From the Gospel according to Matthew

11Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer;yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.12From the days of John the Baptizer until now,the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.14If you are willing to receive it,this is Elijah, who is to come.15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

EpistleLectio

Lectio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apostoli ad Romános

Rom 15:4-13.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 15:4-13

Brethren: Whatever things have been written have been written for our instruction, that through the patience and the consolation afforded by the Scriptures we may have hope. May then the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of one mind towards one another according to Jesus Christ; that, one in spirit, you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive one another, even as Christ has received you to the honor of God. For I say that Christ Jesus has been a minister of the circumcision in order to show God’s fidelity in confirming the promises made to our fathers, but that the Gentiles glorify God because of His mercy, as it is written, Therefore will I praise You among the Gentiles, and will sing to Your name. And again He says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with His people. And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and sing His praises, all you peoples. And again Isaias says, There shall be the root of Jesse, and He Who shall arise to rule the Gentiles... in Him the Gentiles shall hope. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 11:2-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 11:2-10

At that time, when John had heard in prison of the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples to say to Him, Are You He Who is to come, or shall we look for another? And Jesus answering said to them, Go and report to John what you have heard and seen: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not scandalized in Me. Then, as they went away, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft garments are in the houses of kings. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before Your face, who shall make ready Your way before You.’

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
