First ReadingActs 18:23-28

From the Acts of the Apostles

23Having spent some time there,he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia,in order, establishing all the disciples.24Now a certain Jew named Apollos,an Alexandrian by race,an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord;and being fervent in spirit,he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

27When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him;and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped thosewho had believed through grace;28for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scripturesthat Jesus was the Christ.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 47:2-3, 8-9, 10

2Oh clap your hands, all you nations.Shout to God with the voice of triumph!3For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth.

8For God is the King of all the earth.Sing praises with understanding.9God reigns over the nations.God sits on his holy throne.

10The princes of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God.He is greatly exalted!

GospelJohn 16:23b-28

From the Gospel according to John

23“In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name,he will give it to you.24Until now, you have asked nothing in my name.Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.

25“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is comingwhen I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.26In that day you will ask in my name;and I don’t say to youthat I will pray to the Father for you,27for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me,and have believed that I came from God.28I came from the Father and have come into the world.Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ

Sap 5:1-5

Lesson from the book of Wisdom

Wis 5:1-5

Then shall the just stand with great constancy against those that have afflicted them, and taken away their labours. These seeing it, shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the suddenness of their unexpected salvation. Saying within themselves, repenting, and groaning for anguish of spirit: These are they, whom we had some time in derision, and for a parable of reproach. We fools esteemed their life madness, and their end without honour. Behold how they are numbered among the children of God, and their lot is among the saints.

GradualGraduale

Allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 88:6

Confitebúntur cœli mirabília tua, Dómine: étenim veritátem tuam in ecclésia sanctórum. Allelúja.

Ps 20:4

Posuísti, Dómine, super caput ejus corónam de lápide pretióso. Allelúja.

Allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 88:6.

The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints. Alleluia.

Ps 20:4

For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness: thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 15:1-7

Manéte in me: et ego in vobis. Sicut palmes non potest ferre fructum a semetípso, nisi mánserit in vite: sic nec vos, nisi in me manséritis. Ego sum vitis, vos pálmites: qui manet in me, et ego in eo, hic fert fructum multum: quia sine me nihil potéstis fácere.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 15:1-7

In that time, Jesus said to his disciples: I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me, that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now you are clean by reason of the word, which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine: you the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burneth. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done unto you.

PrefacePrefatio

Ascension

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: through Christ our Lord. Who, after His Resurrection, appeared openly to all His disciples, and, while they looked on, was taken up into heaven, that He might grant unto us to be sharers in His own divinity. And therefore, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

Ps 63:11

Lætábitur justus in Dómino, et sperábit in eo: et laudabúntur omnes recti corde, allelúja, allelúja.

Ps 63:11.

The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in him: and all the upright in heart shall be praised, alleluia, alleluia.

PostcommunionPostcommunio

Per Dominum…

May this Communion, O Lord, cleanse us of sin, and through the intercession of blessed Stanislaus, Your Martyr and Bishop, may it make us sharers of heavenly healing.
