First Reading2 Peter 3:12-15a, 17-18

From the Second Letter of Peter

12looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God,which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved,and the elements will melt with fervent heat?13But, according to his promise,we look for new heavens and a new earth,in which righteousness dwells.

14Therefore, beloved,seeing that you look for these things,be diligent to be found in peace,without defect and blameless in his sight.15Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation;even as our beloved brother Paul also,according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you, verse 16 is not read17You therefore, beloved,knowing these things beforehand,beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked,you fall from your own steadfastness.18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lordand Savior Jesus Christ.To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 90:2, 3-4, 10, 14 and 16a

2Before the mountains were born,before you had formed the earth and the world,even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

3You turn man to destruction, saying,“Return, you children of men.”4For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past,like a watch in the night.

10The days of our years are seventy,or even by reason of strength eighty years;yet their pride is but labor and sorrow,for it passes quickly, and we fly away.

14Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness,that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.16Let your work appear to your servants,your glory to their children.

GospelMark 12:13-17

From the Gospel according to Mark

13They sent some of the Pharisees and the Herodians to him,that they might trap him with words.14When they had come,they asked him, “Teacher,we know that you are honest,and don’t defer to anyone;for you aren’t partial to anyone,but truly teach the way of God.Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?15Shall we give, or shall we not give?”

But he, knowing their hypocrisy,said to them, “Why do you test me?Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.”

16They brought it.

He said to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

17Jesus answered them,“Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,and to God the things that are God’s.”

They marveled greatly at him.

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:14-17

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:14-17.

In those days, when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John. On their arrival they prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for as yet He had not come upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 10:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 10:1-10.

At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, Amen, amen, I say to you, he who enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up another way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is shepherd of the sheep. To this man the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them forth. And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. But a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. This parable Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them. Again, therefore, Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All whoever have come are thieves and robbers; but the sheep have not heard them. I am the door. If anyone enter by Me he shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and shall find pastures. The thief comes only to steal, and slay, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.
