First ReadingRomans 4:13, 16-18

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

13For the promise to Abraham and to his offspringthat he would be heir of the world wasn’t through the law,but through the righteousness of faith.

verses 14–15 are not read16For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace,to the end that the promise may be sure to all the offspring, not to that only which is of the law,but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.17As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations.”This is in the presence of him whom he believed:God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not,as though they were.18Against hope, Abraham in hope believed,to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken,“So will your offspring be.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 105:6-7, 8-9, 42-43

6you offspring of Abraham, his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.7He is the Lord, our God.His judgments are in all the earth.

8He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,9the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,

42For he remembered his holy word, and Abraham, his servant.43He brought his people out with joy,his chosen with singing.

GospelLuke 12:8-12

From the Gospel according to Luke

8“I tell you, everyone who confesses me before men,the Son of Man will also confess before the angels of God;9but he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of God’s angels.10Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.11When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, don’t be anxious how or what you will answer or what you will say;12for the Holy Spirit will teach you inthat same hour what you must say.”

Prov 31:10-31

Lesson from the book of Proverbs

Prov 31:10-31

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands. Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar. She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household. She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms. She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed. She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness. Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her: Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
