First ReadingSirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29

From the Book of Sirach

17My son, go on with your business in humility;so you will be loved by an acceptable man.18The greater you are, humble yourself the more, and you will find favor before the Lord. verse 19 is not read20For the power of the Lord is great, and he is glorified by those who are lowly. verses 21–27 are not read28The calamity of the proud has no healing, for a weed of wickedness has taken root in him.29The heart of the prudent will understand a proverb.A wise man desires the ear of a listener.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 68:4-5, 6-7, 10-11

4But let the righteous be glad.Let them rejoice before God.Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.5Sing to God! Sing praises to his name!Extol him who rides on the clouds:to the Lord, his name!Rejoice before him!

6A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows,is God in his holy habitation.7God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

10You, God, sent a plentiful rain. You confirmed your inheritance when it was weary.11Your congregation lived therein. You, God, prepared your goodness for the poor.

Second ReadingHebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a

From the Letter to the Hebrews

18For you have not come to a mountainthat might be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,19the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words;which those who heard it beggedthat not one more word should be spoken to them,

verses 20–21 are not read22But you have come to Mount Zionand to the city of the living God,the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,23to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstbornwho are enrolled in heaven,to God the Judge of all,to the spirits of just men made perfect,24to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinklingthat speaks better than that of Abel.

GospelLuke 14:1, 7-14

From the Gospel according to Luke

1When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.

verses 2–6 are not read7He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,8“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,9and he who invited both of you would come and tell you,‘Make room for this person.’Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.10But when you are invited,go and sit in the lowest place,so that when he who invited you comes,he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’Then you will be honored in the presence of allwho sit at the table with you.11For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

12He also said to the one who had invited him,“When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors,or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.13But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;14and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you.For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 3:4-9

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor. 3:4-9

Brethren: Such is the assurance I have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:23-37

At ille dixit: Qui fecit misericórdiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus: Vade, et tu fac simíliter.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:23-37

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

Exod 32:11 32:13; 32:14

Moses prayed in the sight of the Lord his God and said, Why, O Lord, is Your indignation enkindled against Your people? Let the anger of Your mind cease; remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom You swore to give a land flowing with milk and honey. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which He had spoken of doing against His people.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:

Ps 103:13; 103:14-15

Ps 103:13-15

The earth is replete with the fruit of Your works, O Lord; You produce bread from the earth, and wine to gladden men’s hearts, so that their faces gleam with oil, and bread fortifies the hearts of men.
