First ReadingRevelation 7:2-4, 9-14

From the Book of Revelation

2I saw another angel ascend from the sunrise, having the seal of the living God.He cried with a loud voice to the four angels towhom it was given to harm the earth and the sea,3saying, “Don’t harm the earth, the sea, or the trees, until we have sealed the bondservants of our God on their foreheads!”4I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel:

verses 5–8 are not read9After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could count, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.10They cried with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation be to our God,who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

11All the angels were standing around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures;and they fell on their faces before his throne, and worshiped God,12saying, “Amen!Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

13One of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are arrayed in the white robes, who are they, and where did they come from?”

14I told him, “My lord, you know.”

He said to me, “These are thosewho came out of the great suffering. They washed their robesand made them white in the Lamb’s blood.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

1The earth is the Lord’s, with its fullness;the world, and those who dwell in it.2For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.

3Who may ascend to the Lord’s hill?Who may stand in his holy place?4He who has clean hands and a pure heart;who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully.

5He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, righteousness from the God of his salvation.6This is the generation of those who seek Him,who seek your face—even Jacob.

Second Reading1 John 3:1-3

From the First Letter of John

1See how great a love the Father has given to us,that we should be called children of God!For this cause the world doesn’t know us,because it didn’t know him.2Beloved, now we are children of God.It is not yet revealed what we will be;but we know that when he is revealed,we will be like him,for we will see him just as he is.3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

GospelMatthew 5:1-12a

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.2He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.4Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.5Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.10Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

11“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you,and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.12Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophetswho were before you.

Ephes 6:10-17

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians

Eph 6:10-17

Brethren: Be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of His power. Put on the armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the Principalities and the Powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness on high. Therefore, take up the armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and stand in all things perfect. Stand, therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breast-plate of justice, and having your feet shod with the readiness of the Gospel of peace, in all things taking up the shield of faith, with which you may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, that is, the word of God.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 18:23-35

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 18:23-35

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king who desired to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun the settlement, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And as he had no means of paying, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. But the servant fell down and besought him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all!’ And moved with compassion, the master of that servant released him, and forgave him the debt. But as that servant went out, he met one of his fellow-servants who owed him a hundred denarii and he laid hold of him, and throttled him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ His fellow-servant therefore fell down and began to entreat him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will pay you all.’ But he would not; but went away and cast him into prison until he should pay what was due. His fellow-servants therefore, seeing what had happened, were very much saddened, and they went and informed their master of what had taken place. Then his master called him, and said to him, ‘Wicked servant! I forgave you all the debt, because you entreated me. Should not you also have had pity on your fellow-servant, even as I had pity on you?’ And his master, being angry, handed him over to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. So also My heavenly Father will do to you, if you do not each forgive your brothers from your hearts.

Job 1.1

Job 1.1

There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, simple, and upright, and fearing God, whom Satan besought that he might tempt: and power was given him from the Lord over his possessions and his flesh; and he destroyed all his substance and his children, and wounded his flesh also with a grievous ulcer.

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:

Ps 118:81; 118:84; 118:86
