First Reading2 Corinthians 3:15—4:1, 3-6

From the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

15But to this day, when Moses is read,a veil lies on their heart.16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.17Now the Lord is the Spirit;and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.18But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.

1Therefore, seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don’t faint. verse 2 is not read3Even if our Good News is veiled,it is veiled in those who are dying,4in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,should not dawn on them.5For we don’t preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake,6seeing it is God who said,“Light will shine out of darkness,”who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, 13-14

9I will hear what God, the Lord, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his saints;but let them not turn again to folly.10Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

11Mercy and truth meet together.Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.12Truth springs out of the earth.Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

13Yes, the Lord will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.14Righteousness goes before him,and prepares the way for his steps.

GospelMatthew 5:20-26

From the Gospel according to Matthew

20For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceedsthat of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

21“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones,‘You shall not murder;’and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’22But I tell you that everyonewho is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment.Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’will be in danger of the council.Whoever says, ‘You fool!’will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.

23“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there rememberthat your brother has anything against you,24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way.First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.25Agree with your adversary quicklywhile you are with him on the way;lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.26Most certainly I tell you,you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.

Prov 31:10-31

Lesson from the book of Proverbs

Prov 31:10-31

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and makes cloth with skillful hands. Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar. She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household. She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms. She enjoys the success of her dealings; at night her lamp is undimmed. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed. She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel. She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness. Her children rise up and praise her; her husband, too, extols her: Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 13:44-52

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 13:44-52.

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to His disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; he who finds it hides it, and in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a single pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea that gathered in fish of every kind. When it was filled, they hauled it out, and sitting down on the beach, they gathered the good fish into vessels, but threw away the bad. So will it be at the end of the world. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from among the just, and will cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth. Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes. And He said to them, So then, every Scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings forth from his storeroom things new and old.

Common

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
