First Reading1 Corinthians 4:1-5

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

1So let a man think of us as Christ’s servantsand stewards of God’s mysteries.2Here, moreover, it is required of stewardsthat they be found faithful.3But with me it is a very small thingthat I should be judged by you,or by a human court.Yes, I don’t even judge my own self.4For I know nothing against myself.Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.5Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darknessand reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40

3Trust in the Lord, and do good.Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.4Also delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5Commit your way to the Lord.Trust also in him, and he will do this:6he will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun.

27Depart from evil, and do good.Live securely forever.28For the Lord loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.

39But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord.He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.40The Lord helps them and rescues them.He rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they have taken refuge in him.

GospelLuke 5:33-39

From the Gospel according to Luke

33They said to him, “Why do John’s disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?”

34He said to them, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fastwhile the bridegroom is with them?35But the days will comewhen the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast in those days.”

36He also told a parable to them.“No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old garment,or else he will tear the new,and also the piece from the new will not match the old.37No one puts new wine into old wineskins,or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled and the skins will be destroyed.38But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.39No man having drunk old wine immediately desires new,for he says, ‘The old is better.’”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

2 Cor 3:4-9

Lesson from the second letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

2 Cor. 3:4-9

Brethren: Such is the assurance I have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 10:23-37

At ille dixit: Qui fecit misericórdiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus: Vade, et tu fac simíliter.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 10:23-37

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

Exod 32:11 32:13; 32:14

Moses prayed in the sight of the Lord his God and said, Why, O Lord, is Your indignation enkindled against Your people? Let the anger of Your mind cease; remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom You swore to give a land flowing with milk and honey. And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which He had spoken of doing against His people.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
