First ReadingEzekiel 34:11-16

From the Book of Ezekiel

11“‘For the Lord GOD says:“Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.12As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the daythat he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad,so I will seek out my sheep.I will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.13I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land.I will feed them on the mountains of Israel,by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited places of the country.14I will feed them with good pasture, and their fold will be on the mountains of the height of Israel. There they will lie down in a good fold. They will feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.15I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,”says the Lord GOD.16“I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick;but I will destroy the fat and the strong.I will feed them in justice.”’

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6*

1The Lord is my shepherd;I shall lack nothing.2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.3He restores my soul.

3He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me.Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5You prepare a table before mein the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil.My cup runs over.

6Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the Lord’s house forever.

Second ReadingRomans 5:5b-11

From the Letter of Paul to the Romans

5and hope doesn’t disappoint us,because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spiritwho was given to us.

6For while we were yet weak,at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.7For one will hardly die for a righteous man.Yet perhaps for a good person someone would even dare to die.8But God commends his own love toward us,in that while we were yet sinners,Christ died for us.

9Much more then, being now justified by his blood,we will be saved from God’s wrath through him.10For if while we were enemies,we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son,much more, being reconciled,we will be saved by his life.

11Not only so,but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

GospelLuke 15:3-7

From the Gospel according to Luke

3He told them this parable:4“Which of you men,if you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wildernessand go after the one that was lost, until he found it?5When he has found it,he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.6When he comes home,he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me,for I have found my sheep which was lost!’7I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous peoplewho need no repentance.
