First ReadingGenesis 17:1, 9-10, 15-22

From the Book of Genesis

1When Abram was ninety-nine years old,the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him,“I am God Almighty.Walk before me and be blameless.

verses 2–8 are not read9God said to Abraham,“As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.10This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you.Every male among you shall be circumcised.

verses 11–14 are not read15God said to Abraham,“As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name shall be Sarah.16I will bless her,and moreover I will give you a son by her.Yes, I will bless her,and she will be a mother of nations.Kings of peoples will come from her.”

17Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart,“Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”18Abraham said to God,“Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

19God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son.You shall call his name Isaac.I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.20As for Ishmael, I have heard you.Behold, I have blessed him,and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.21But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

22When he finished talking with him,God went up from Abraham.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5

1Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways.2For you will eat the labor of your hands. You will be happy, and it will be well with you.

3Your wife will be as a fruitful vine in the innermost parts of your house, your children like olive shoots around your table.

4Behold, this is how the man who fears the Lord is blessed.5May the Lord bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

GospelMatthew 8:1-4

From the Gospel according to Matthew

1When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.2Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, if you want to,you can make me clean.”

3Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I want to.Be made clean.”Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.4Jesus said to him, “See that you tell nobody;but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded,as a testimony to them.”

CollectOratio

Protéctor in te sperántium, Deus, sine quo nihil est válidum, nihil sanctum: multíplica super nos misericórdiam tuam; ut, te rectóre, te duce, sic transeámus per bona temporália, ut non amittámus ætérna.

Per Dominum…

O God, protector of all who hope in You, without Whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, increase Your mercy toward us, that, with Your guidance and direction we may so pass through the things of this temporal life as not to lose those of life eternal.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Petri Apóstoli

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Caríssimi: Humiliámini sub poténti manu Dei, ut vos exáltet in témpore visitatiónis: omnem sollicitúdinem vestram projiciéntes in eum, quóniam ipsi cura est de vobis. Sóbrii estote et vigiláte: quia adversárius vester diábolus tamquam leo rúgiens circuit, quærens, quem dévoret: cui resístite fortes in fide: sciéntes eándem passiónem ei, quæ in mundo est, vestræ fraternitáti fíeri. Deus autem omnis grátiæ, qui vocávit nos in ætérnam suam glóriam in Christo Jesu, módicum passos ipse perfíciet, confirmábit solidabítque. Ipsi glória et impérium in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Lesson from the first letter of St. Peter the Apostle

1 Pet. 5:6-11

Beloved: Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in the time of visitation; cast all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be sober, be watchful! For your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering befalls your brethren all over the world. But the God of all grace, Who has called us unto His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself, after we have suffered a little while, perfect, strengthen and establish us. To Him is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Ps. 7:12

Cast your care upon the Lord, and He will support you.

℣.When I called upon the Lord, He heard my voice from those who war against me. Alleluia, alleluia.

A just judge is God, strong and patient; is He angry every day? Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 15:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 15:1-10

At that time, the publicans and sinners were drawing near to Him to listen to Him. And the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. But He spoke to them this parable, saying, What man of you having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it upon his shoulders rejoicing. And on coming home he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’ I say to you that, even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more then over ninety-nine just who have no need of repentance. Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I had lost.’ Even so, I say to you, there will be joy among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
