First Reading1 Samuel 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23

From the First Book of Samuel

2Then Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him,to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. verses 3–6 are not read7So David and Abishai came to the people by night;and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head;and Abner and the people lay around him.8Then Abishai said to David,“God has delivered up your enemy into your hand today. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”

9David said to Abishai,“Don’t destroy him,for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?”

verses 10–11 are not read12So David took the spearand the jar of water from Saul’s head,and they went away.No man saw it, or knew it, nor did any awake;for they were all asleep,because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.13Then David went over to the other side,and stood on the top of the mountain far away,a great space being between them;

verses 14–21 are not read22David answered, “Behold the spear, O king!Let one of the young men come over and get it.23The Lord will give to every man his righteousnessand his faithfulness;because the Lord delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 8 and 10, 12-13*

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,4who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

8The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.

12As far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us.13Like a father has compassion on his children,so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Second Reading1 Corinthians 15:45-49

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

45So also it is written,“The first man Adam became a living soul.”The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.46However, that which is spiritual isn’t first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual.47The first man is of the earth, made of dust. The second man is the Lord from heaven.48As is the one made of dust, such are those who are also made of dust;and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.49As we have borne the image of those made of dust, let’s also bear the image of the heavenly.

GospelLuke 6:27-38

From the Gospel according to Luke

27“But I tell you who hear:love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28bless those who curse you,and pray for those who mistreat you.29To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other;and from him who takes away your cloak, don’t withhold your coat also.30Give to everyone who asks you,and don’t ask himwho takes away your goods to give them back again.

31“As you would like people to do to you,do exactly so to them.

32“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?For even sinners love those who love them.33If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?For even sinners do the same.34If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you?Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive back as much.35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back;and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High;for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

36“Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful.37Don’t judge, and you won’t be judged.Don’t condemn, and you won’t be condemned.Set free, and you will be set free.

38“Give, and it will be given to you:good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you.For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.”

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Brethren: Do you not know that those who run in a race, all indeed run, but one receives the prize? So run as to obtain it. And everyone in a contest abstains from all things - and they indeed to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable. I, therefore, so run as not without a purpose; I so fight as not beating the air; but I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps after preaching to others I myself should be rejected. For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, all were baptized in Moses, in the cloud and in the sea. And all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ. Yet with most of them God was not well pleased.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 20:1-16

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 20:1-16

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. And having agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And about the third hour, he went out and saw others standing in the market place idle; and he said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard, and I will give you whatever is just.’ So they went. And again he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and did as before. But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing about and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ They said to him, ‘Because no man has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard.’ But when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers, and pay them their wages, beginning from the last even to the first.’ Now when they of the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius. And when the first in their term came, they thought that they would receive more; but they also received each his denarius. And on receiving it, they began to murmur against the householder, saying, ‘These last have worked a single hour, and you have put them on a level with us, who have borne the burden of the day’s heat.’ But answering one of them, he said, ‘Friend, I do you no injustice; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go; I choose to give to this last even as to you. Have I not a right to do what I choose? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ Even so the last shall be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
