First Reading1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22b-27

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

16For if I preach the Good News,I have nothing to boast about, for necessity is laid on me;but woe is to me if I don’t preach the Good News.17For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will,I have a stewardship entrusted to me.18What then is my reward? That when I preach the Good News,I may present the Good News of Christ without charge,so as not to abuse my authority in the Good News.

19For though I was free from all,I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. verses 20–21 are not read22To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak.I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.23Now I do this for the sake of the Good News, that I may be a joint partaker of it.24Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run,but one receives the prize?Run like that, so that you may win.25Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.26I therefore run like that, not aimlessly.I fight like that, not beating the air,27but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others,I myself should be disqualified.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 84:3, 4, 5-6, 12

3My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the Lord.My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

4Yes, the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young, near your altars, Lord of Armies, my King, and my God.

5Blessed are those who dwell in your house. They are always praising you.6Blessed are those whose strength is in you,who have set their hearts on a pilgrimage.

12For the Lord God is a sun and a shield. The Lord will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

GospelLuke 6:39-42

From the Gospel according to Luke

39He spoke a parable to them.“Can the blind guide the blind?Won’t they both fall into a pit?40A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyonewhen he is fully trained will be like his teacher.41Why do you see the speck of chaffthat is in your brother’s eye,but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?42Or how can you tell your brother,‘Brother, let me remove the speck of chaffthat is in your eye,’when you yourself don’t see the beamthat is in your own eye?You hypocrite!First remove the beam from your own eye,and then you can see clearly to remove the speck of chaffthat is in your brother’s eye.

Ephes 4:1-6

Fratres: Obsecro vos ego vinctus in Dómino, ut digne ambulétis vocatióne, qua vocáti estis, cum omni humilitáte et mansuetúdine, cum patiéntia, supportántes ínvicem in caritáte, sollíciti serváre unitátem spíritus in vínculo pacis. Eph 4:1-6

Brethren: I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and meekness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, careful to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and throughout all, and in us all, Who is blessed forever and ever. Amen.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 22:34-46

In his duóbus mandátis univérsa lex pendet et prophétæ. Congregátis autem pharisǽis, interrogávit eos Jesus, dicens: Quid vobis vidétur de Christo? cujus fílius est? Dicunt ei: David. Ait illis: Quómodo ergo David in spíritu vocat eum Dóminum, dicens: Dixit Dóminus Dómino meo, sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimícos tuos scabéllum pedum tuórum? Si ergo David vocat eum Dóminum, quómodo fílius ejus est? Et nemo poterat ei respóndere verbum: neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum ámplius interrogáre.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 22:34-46

At that time, the Pharisees came to Jesus and one of them, a doctor of the Law, putting Him to the test, asked Him, Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets. Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, saying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David’s. He said to them, How then does David in the spirit call Him Lord, saying, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool?’ If David, therefore, calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son? And no one could answer Him a word; neither did anyone dare from that day forth to ask Him any more questions.

Orávi Deum meum ego Dániel, dicens: Exáudi, Dómine, preces servi tui: illúmina fáciem tuam super sanctuárium tuum: et propítius inténde pópulum istum, super quem invocátum est nomen tuum, Deus.

Dan 9:17-19

I, Daniel, prayed to my God, saying, Hear, O Lord, the prayers of Your servant; show Your face upon Your sanctuary, and favorably look down upon this people, upon whom Your name is invoked, O God.
