First ReadingJames 2:1-9

From the Letter of James

1My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with partiality.2For if a man with a gold ring,in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in,3and you pay special attention to himwho wears the fine clothing and say,“Sit here in a good place;”and you tell the poor man,“Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”4haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?5Listen, my beloved brothers.Didn’t God choose thosewho are poor in this world to be rich in faithand heirs of the Kingdomwhich he promised to those who love him?6But you have dishonored the poor man.Don’t the rich oppress youand personally drag you before the courts?7Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name bywhich you are called?

8However, if you fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture,“You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well.9But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7

2I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.3My soul shall boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

4Oh magnify the Lord with me.Let’s exalt his name together.5I sought the Lord, and he answered me,and delivered me from all my fears.

6They looked to him, and were radiant.Their faces shall never be covered with shame.7This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,and saved him out of all his troubles.

GospelMark 8:27-33

From the Gospel according to Mark

27Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples,“Who do men say that I am?”

28They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets.”

29He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

30He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.31He began to teach themthat the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.32He spoke to them openly.Peter took him and began to rebuke him.33But he, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said,“Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God,but the things of men.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Thessalonicénses

1 Thess 1:2-10

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians

1 Thess. 1:2-10

Brethren: We give thanks to God always for you all, continually making a remembrance of you in our prayers; being mindful before God our Father of your work of faith, and labor, and charity, and your enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. We know, brethren, beloved of God, how you were chosen. For our Gospel was not delivered to you in word only, but in power also, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much fullness, as indeed you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in great tribulation, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became a pattern to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you the word of the Lord has been spread abroad, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has gone forth, so that we need say nothing further. For they themselves report concerning us how we entered among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God, and to await from heaven Jesus, His Son, Whom He raised from the dead, Who has delivered us from the wrath to come.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

Matt 13:31-35

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew

Matt 13:31-35

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to the crowds: The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. This indeed is the smallest of all the seeds; but when it grows up it is larger than any herb and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches. He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and buried in three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened. All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without parables he did not speak to them; that what was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled, I will open My mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
