First ReadingLeviticus 19:1-2, 17-18

From the Book of Leviticus

1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,2“Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘You shall be holy;for I, the Lord your God, am holy.

verses 3–16 are not read17“‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.

18“‘You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people;but you shall love your neighbor as yourself.I am the Lord.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 103:1-2, 3-4, 8, 10, 12-13

1Praise the Lord, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!2Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,4who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

8The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.

10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.

12As far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us.13Like a father has compassion on his children,so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Second Reading1 Corinthians 3:16-23

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

16Don’t you know that you are God’s templeand that God’s Spirit lives in you?17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him;for God’s temple is holy, which you are.

18Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool that he may become wise.19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.For it is written,“He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”20And again, “The Lord knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is worthless.”21Therefore let no one boast in men.For all things are yours,22whether Paul, or Apollos,or Cephas, or the world,or life, or death,or things present,or things to come. All are yours,23and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

GospelMatthew 5:38-48

From the Gospel according to Matthew

38“You have heard that it was said,‘An eye for an eye,and a tooth for a tooth.’39But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil;but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.40If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.41Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.42Give to him who asks you,and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.

43“You have heard that it was said,‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’44But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,do good to those who hate you,and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,45that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?47If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others?Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?48Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

1 Cor 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Lesson from the first letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

1 Cor. 9:24-27; 10:1-5

Brethren: Do you not know that those who run in a race, all indeed run, but one receives the prize? So run as to obtain it. And everyone in a contest abstains from all things - and they indeed to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable. I, therefore, so run as not without a purpose; I so fight as not beating the air; but I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps after preaching to others I myself should be rejected. For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, all were baptized in Moses, in the cloud and in the sea. And all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ. Yet with most of them God was not well pleased.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 20:1-16

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 20:1-16

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. And having agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And about the third hour, he went out and saw others standing in the market place idle; and he said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard, and I will give you whatever is just.’ So they went. And again he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and did as before. But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing about and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ They said to him, ‘Because no man has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘Go you also into the vineyard.’ But when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers, and pay them their wages, beginning from the last even to the first.’ Now when they of the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius. And when the first in their term came, they thought that they would receive more; but they also received each his denarius. And on receiving it, they began to murmur against the householder, saying, ‘These last have worked a single hour, and you have put them on a level with us, who have borne the burden of the day’s heat.’ But answering one of them, he said, ‘Friend, I do you no injustice; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go; I choose to give to this last even as to you. Have I not a right to do what I choose? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ Even so the last shall be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
