First Reading1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 27-31a

From the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians

12For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body;so also is Christ.13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free;and were all given to drink into one Spirit.

14For the body is not one member, but many.

verses 15–26 are not read27Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.28God has set some in the assembly:first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of languages.29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all miracle workers?30Do all have gifts of healings?Do all speak with various languages?Do all interpret?31But earnestly desire the best gifts. Moreover, I show a most excellent way to you.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 100:1b-2, 3, 4, 5

1Shout for joy to the Lord, all you lands!2Serve the Lord with gladness.Come before his presence with singing.

3Know that the Lord, he is God.It is he who has made us, and we are his.We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.Give thanks to him, and bless his name.

5For the Lord is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.

GospelLuke 7:11-17

From the Gospel according to Luke

11Soon afterwards, he went to a city called Nain. Many of his disciples, along with a great multitude, went with him.12Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, one who was dead was carried out,the only born son of his mother, and she was a widow. Many people of the city were with her.13When the Lord saw her,he had compassion on her and said to her, “Don’t cry.”14He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”15He who was dead sat up and began to speak. Then he gave him to his mother.

16Fear took hold of all,and they glorified God,saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!”and, “God has visited his people!”17This report went out concerning him in the whole of Judeaand in all the surrounding region.

Commemoration Stigmata of St. Francis

O Lord, Jesus Christ, Who, to inflame our hearts with the fire of Your love when the world was becoming cold in spirit, renewed in the flesh of most blessed Francis the sacred marks of Your own passion, graciously grant that by his merits and prayers we may steadfastly carry our cross and bring forth worthy fruits of penance.

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:16-24

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:16-24

Brethren: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, jealousies, anger, quarrels, factions, parties, envies, murders, drunkenness, carousings, and suchlike. And concerning these I warn you, as I have warned you, that they who do such things will not attain the kingdom of God. But of the fruit of the Spirit is: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such things there is no law. And they who belong to Christ have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum

Matt 6:24-33

Scit enim Pater vester, quia his ómnibus indigétis. Quǽrite ergo primum regnum Dei et justítiam ejus: et hæc ómnia adjiciéntur vobis.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matt 6:24-33

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: No man serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will stand by the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you shall eat; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life a greater thing than the food, and the body than the clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you of much more value than they? But which of you by being anxious about it can add to his stature a single cubit? And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider how the lilies of the field grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of those. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which flourishes today but tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more you, O you of little faith! Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink?’ or, ‘What are we to put on?’ - for after all these things the Gentiles seek; - for your Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His justice, and all these things shall be given you besides.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
