First ReadingWisdom 2:12, 17-20

From the Book of Wisdom

12But let’s lie in wait for the righteous man, because he annoys us,is contrary to our works, reproaches us with sins against the law,and charges us with sins against our training. verses 13–16 are not read17Let’s see if his words are true.Let’s test what will happen at the end of his life.18For if the righteous man is God’s son, he will uphold him,and he will deliver him out of the hand of his adversaries.19Let’s test him with insult and torture, that we may find out how gentle he is,and test his patience.20Let’s condemn him to a shameful death, for he will be protected, according to his words.”

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 54:3-4, 5, 6 and 8

3Save me, God, by your name.Vindicate me in your might.4Hear my prayer, God.Listen to the words of my mouth.

5For strangers have risen up against me.Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven’t set God before them.

6Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.8With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you.I will give thanks to your name, Lord, for it is good.

Second ReadingJames 3:16—4:3

From the Letter of James

16For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.18Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

1Where do wars and fightings among you come from?Don’t they come from your pleasuresthat war in your members?2You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war.You don’t have, because you don’t ask.3You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives,so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

GospelMark 9:30-37

From the Gospel according to Mark

30They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,31for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men,and they will kill him;and when he is killed,on the third day he will rise again.”

32But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them,“What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

34But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way aboutwho was the greatest.

35He sat down and called the twelve;and he said to them,“If any man wants to be first,he shall be last of all,and servant of all.”36He took a little child and set him in the middle of them.Taking him in his arms, he said to them,37“Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me;and whoever receives me,doesn’t receive me,but him who sent me.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas.

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

Brethren: If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. Let us not become desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, even if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual instruct such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let everyone test his own work, and so he will have glory in himself only, and not in comparison with another. For each one will bear his own burden. And let him who is instructed in the word share all good things with his teacher. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what a man sows in the flesh, from the flesh also will reap corruption. But he who sows in the spirit, from the spirit will reap life everlasting. And in doing good let us not grow tired; for in due time we shall reap if we do not relax. Therefore, while we have time, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam

Luc 7:11-16

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went into a city called Naim; and His disciples and a large crowd went with Him. And as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was with her. And the Lord, seeing her, had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep. And He went up and touched the stretcher; and the bearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited His people.

PrefacePrefatio

Holy Trinity

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
