First Reading1 Peter 1:3-9

From the First Letter of Peter

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritancethat doesn’t fade away,reserved in Heaven for you,5who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6In this you greatly rejoice,though now for a little while,if need be, you have been grieved in various trials,7that the proof of your faith,which is more precious than gold that perishes,even though it is tested by fire,may be found to result in praise,glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—8whom, not having known, you love.In him, though now you don’t see him,yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joythat is unspeakable and full of glory,9receiving the result of your faith,the salvation of your souls.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 111:1-2, 5-6, 9, 10c

1Praise the Lord!I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.2The Lord’s works are great,pondered by all those who delight in them.

5He has given food to those who fear him.He always remembers his covenant.6He has shown his people the power of his works,in giving them the heritage of the nations.

9He has sent redemption to his people.He has ordained his covenant forever.His name is holy and awesome!

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.All those who do his work have a good understanding.His praise endures forever!

GospelMark 10:17-27

From the Gospel according to Mark

17As he was going out into the way,one ran to him, knelt before him,and asked him, “Good Teacher,what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

18Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good?No one is good except one— God.19You know the commandments:‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’”

20He said to him, “Teacher,I have observed all these things from my youth.”

21Jesus looking at him loved him,and said to him, “One thing you lack.Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor,and you will have treasure in heaven;and come, follow me, taking up the cross.”

22But his face fell at that saying,and he went away sorrowful,for he was one who had great possessions.

23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,“How difficult it is for thosewho have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!”

24The disciples were amazed at his words.But Jesus answered again,“Children, how hard it is for thosewho trust in riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!25It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.”

26They were exceedingly astonished,saying to him, “Then who can be saved?”

27Jesus, looking at them,said, “With men it is impossible,but not with God, for all things are possible with God.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 10:34; 10:42-48

Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 10:34, 42-48

In those days, Peter opening his mouth, said, Men, brethren, the Lord charged us to preach to the people and to testify that He it is Who has been appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To Him all the prophets bear witness, that through His Name all who believe in Him may receive forgiveness of sins. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came upon all who were listening to his message. And the faithful of the circumcision, who had come with Peter, were amazed, because on the Gentiles also the grace of the Holy Spirit had been poured forth; for they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered, Can anyone refuse the water to baptize these, seeing that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did? And he ordered them to be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

GospelEvangelium

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 3:16-21

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 3:16-21

At that time, Jesus said to Nicodemus: God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that those who believe in Him may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God did not send His Son into the world in order to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; but he who does not believe in Him is already judged, because he does not believe in the Name of the only-begotten Son of God. Now this is the judgment: The light has come into the world, yet men have loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, that his deeds may not be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light that his deeds may be made manifest, for they have been performed in God.

Who ascending above all in the heavens and sitting at Thy Right Hand, poured out the Holy Spirit upon the children of adoption. Wherefore the whole world doth rejoice with overflowing joy; and the heavenly Hosts also and the angelic Powers sing together the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:
