First Reading1 Thessalonians 2:2b-8

From the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians

2but having suffered before and been shamefully treated,as you know, at Philippi,we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.3For our exhortation is not of error,nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.4But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.5For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery,as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),6nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others),when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.7But we were gentle among you,like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

8Even so, affectionately longing for you,we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only,but also our own souls,because you had become very dear to us.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 7-8a, 10

1Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord, all the earth.2Sing to the Lord!

2Bless his name!Proclaim his salvation from day to day!3Declare his glory among the nations,his marvelous works among all the peoples.

7Ascribe to the Lord, you families of nations,ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.8Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name.Bring an offering, and come into his courts.

10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is also established.It can’t be moved.He will judge the peoples with equity.

GospelMatthew 9:35-38

From the Gospel according to Matthew

35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages,teaching in their synagoguesand preaching the Good News of the Kingdom,and healing every diseaseand every sickness among the people.36But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion for thembecause they were harassed and scattered,like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest indeed is plentiful,but the laborers are few.38Pray thereforethat the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

Léctio Actuum Apostolórum

Acts 8:14-17

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles

Acts 8:14-17.

In those days, when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John. On their arrival they prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for as yet He had not come upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit! Lord of light!

From Thy clear celestial height, Thy pure, beaming radiance give:

Come, Thou, Father of the poor!

Come, with treasures which endure!

Come, Thou light of all that live!

Thou of all consolers best,

Visiting the troubled breast,

Dost refreshing peace bestow:

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;

Pleasant coolness in the heat;

Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal! Light divine!

Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill.

If Thou take Thy grace away,

Nothing pure in man will stay;

All his good is turn’d to ill.

Heal our wounds - our strength renew;

On our dryness pour Thy dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on those who evermore

Thee confess and Thee adore,

In Thy sevenfold gifts descend.

Give them comfort when they die;

Give them life with Thee on high;

Give them joys which never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Joánnem

Joannes 10:1-10

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to John

John 10:1-10.

At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, Amen, amen, I say to you, he who enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up another way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is shepherd of the sheep. To this man the gatekeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them forth. And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. But a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. This parable Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them. Again, therefore, Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All whoever have come are thieves and robbers; but the sheep have not heard them. I am the door. If anyone enter by Me he shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and shall find pastures. The thief comes only to steal, and slay, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.
