First ReadingHosea 8:4-7, 11-13

From the Book of Hosea

4They have set up kings, but not by me.They have made princes, and I didn’t approve.Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, that they may be cut off.5Let Samaria throw out his calf idol!My anger burns against them! How long will it be until they are capable of purity?6For this is even from Israel! The workman made it, and it is no God;indeed, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.7For they sow the wind, and they will reap the whirlwind. He has no standing grain. The stalk will yield no head.If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up. verses 8–10 are not read11Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning, they became for him altars for sinning.12I wrote for him the many things of my law,but they were regarded as a strange thing.13As for the sacrifices of my offerings, they sacrifice meat and eat it,but the Lord doesn’t accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish their sins. They will return to Egypt.

Responsorial PsalmPsalm 115:3-4, 5-6, 7ab-8, 9-10

3But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he pleases.4Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

5They have mouths, but they don’t speak. They have eyes, but they don’t see.6They have ears, but they don’t hear. They have noses, but they don’t smell.

7They have hands, but they don’t feel. They have feet, but they don’t walk, neither do they speak through their throat.8Those who make them will be like them;yes, everyone who trusts in them.

9Israel, trust in the Lord!He is their help and their shield.10House of Aaron, trust in the Lord!He is their help and their shield.

GospelMatthew 9:32-38

From the Gospel according to Matthew

32As they went out, behold,a mute man who was demon possessed was brought to him.33When the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. The multitudes marveled, saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”

34But the Pharisees said,“By the prince of the demons,he casts out demons.”

35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagoguesand preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every diseaseand every sickness among the people.36But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion for thembecause they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few.38Pray thereforethat the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

EpistleLectio

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Romános

Rom 6:3-11

Fratres: Quicúmque baptizáti sumus in Christo Jesu, in morte ipsíus baptizáti sumus.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Rom 6:3-11.

Brethren: All we who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death. For we were buried with Him by means of Baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ has arisen from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be so in the likeness of His resurrection also. For we know that our old self has been crucified with Him, in order that the body of sin may be destroyed, that we may no longer be slaves to sin; for he who is dead is acquitted of sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ; for we know that Christ, having risen from the dead, dies now no more, death shall no longer have dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives unto God. Thus do you consider yourselves also as dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Marcum

Marc 8:1-9

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Mark

Mark 8:1-9

At that time, when there was a great crowd with Jesus, and they had nothing to eat, He called His disciples together and said to them, I have compassion on the crowd, for behold, they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat; and if I send them away to their homes fasting, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come from a distance. And His disciples answered Him, How will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in a desert? And He asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven. And He bade the crowd recline on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to distribute; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and ordered them to be distributed. And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up what was left of the fragments, seven baskets. Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He dismissed them.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
